Bungie announces that following an update on August 20, Xur will be able to sell the exotic class items for Destiny 2 players. The Final Shape continues to be a hugely popular expansion for Destiny 2, managing to put an end to the 10-year story line focused on the Light and Darkness. In addition to the campaign, the expansion introduced a wealth of content and things to chase, including new and returning exotics, the franchise's first 12 player activity, and much more.
As teased in promotional materials, Destiny 2: The Final Shape also added class specific exotic items which could roll with 2 exotic perks from a larger pool of options. This customization element made these items highly sought after as players gained access to some exotic perks that were only available on other classes. However, the way to earn these Destiny 2 class exotics would be a point of contention, forcing players into a 2 player cooperative activity which divided the player base. Ultimately, Bungie would add more ways to farm the armor, though thanks to player feedback, the studio continues to look for more ways to make the gear available.

Destiny 2 Update Accidentally Nerfs Exotic Weapon
Following the most recent update, one of the more popular exotic weapons in Destiny 2 received an unfortunate and accidental nerf.

In its weekly blog post, Bungie confirmed that players would be able to purchase a randomly rolled Exotic Class Item from the weekend merchant Xur in exchange for 41 Strange Coins. The change is being made as part of Update 8.5.0.2 which is scheduled for August 20, and when Xur arrives on Friday, August 23, the items will be available for purchase. However, following that initial sale, each week afterward will still be subject to RNG, so these items won't always be available every single weekend. One major caveat here is that in order to acquire these items from Xur, the Dual Destiny exotic mission in Destiny 2 needs to be completed. For those who have not made it through the mission at least 1 time, Xur will instead offer an exotic engram.
When Exotic Class Items Will Arrive with Xur in Destiny 2
- August 23
Bungie teases that this is just the beginning for how these Exotic Class Items can be acquired. The studio has continued to listen to player feedback, with many still unhappy after the recent Destiny 2 exotic class item farming changes not being viable enough. Bungie hinted that it has ideas for future updates, but they're all still early in development and will take time to ultimately implement. Alternatively, players can continue running the mission, finishing the weekly challenge, and opening chests around the Pale Heart for ways to earn different rolls for now.
Player feedback has seemingly become increasingly important for Bungie as the developer has also recently attempted to assuage community fears over the future of the franchise following the recent layoffs. Bungie intends to reveal the future of Destiny soon, not only committing to the franchise with updates and transparent communication, but indicating the studio is working on plans for the next multi-year journey as well. Details on what that means outside of the planned episodes are scarce, but Bungie will keep players updated once a date has been established.
